How to use this tool
Enter a number and the number of decimal places. A negative place count rounds to tens, hundreds or larger powers of ten. Nearest rounding sends halfway values away from zero. Floor moves toward negative infinity, while ceiling moves toward positive infinity. Rounding uses the decimal digits as entered, avoiding binary multiplication errors at decimal boundaries.
Try these values
Rounding 145 to -1 decimal places gives 150 with nearest rounding. Floor of -1.2 at zero decimal places is -2, while ceiling is -1.
Common questions
Is floor the same as removing decimal digits?
Only for some positive values. For a negative value, floor moves farther toward negative infinity.
Does it choose an accounting policy for me?
No. It rounds the entered digits using your chosen rule. Apply the policy required by your own system.
