PRACTICAL GUIDE

Clean a List Without Changing Its Original Order

The tool compares whole lines, not individual words or spreadsheet columns.

Put one record on each line

The tool compares whole lines, not individual words or spreadsheet columns. If one record spans several lines, its pieces will be treated separately. Prepare a plain list before removing duplicates.

Choose what counts as a match

Case-sensitive comparison treats ID-a and ID-A as different strings. Ignoring case can merge them. Decide based on the meaning of your identifiers, not just how similar they look on screen.

Decide whether edge spaces matter

A trailing space can make two otherwise identical lines different. The trim option removes edge whitespace before comparing and producing output. Keep it off when those spaces belong to the actual data.

Check the removed count

Review the output and the number removed before replacing a source list. A first-occurrence rule keeps the first version it encounters; it does not choose the newest, most complete or otherwise preferred record.
