How to use this tool
Enter distance in kilometres and total elapsed time in minutes. Average speed is total distance divided by total time. Include stops if you want a whole-journey average. The result does not describe an instantaneous maximum, a speed limit or the changing speed along a route.
Try these values
Travelling 10 kilometres in 30 minutes gives an average of 20 km/h, about 12.43 mph or 5.56 m/s.
Common questions
Can elapsed time be zero?
No. Division by zero does not define a speed.
Should I include breaks?
Include them for an overall trip average; exclude them only if you intend to measure moving time.
