PRACTICAL GUIDE

Read Query Strings Without Losing Repeated Parameters

Inspect URL query parameters in order, including repeated keys, empty values and decoded form-query text.

Identify the query portion

In an absolute URL, the query begins at the question mark and ends before the fragment. You can paste the whole URL or only its query. The parser reads the text locally; it does not visit the address or inspect the destination.

Understand plus and percent escapes

Form-query parsing treats a plus sign as a space. A literal plus should therefore arrive as %2B. Percent-encoded bytes are decoded according to URLSearchParams behavior, including replacement behavior for malformed input. Use an encoder when constructing new parameter values.

Keep repeated keys

A request can include tag=php&tag=js. Converting that directly into one simple key-value object can lose a value. This tool shows both the original order and an array of values per key, including empty strings.

Validate values in the application

Parsing does not make a parameter safe or meaningful. A server still needs to enforce expected names, permitted values and length limits. Keep credentials and personal data out of URLs because addresses can appear in logs and browser history.
