How to use this tool
Choose whether the entered amount excludes tax or already includes it, then enter the applicable rate yourself. Adding tax multiplies the base by one plus the rate. Extracting included tax divides the total by that factor. No location, exemptions, legal rates or tax-on-tax rules are inferred.
Try these values
At an entered rate of 20%, a price of 100 becomes 120. If 120 already includes 20% tax, its base is 100 and its tax portion is 20.
Common questions
Does this look up my tax rate?
No. Enter a rate from the relevant current source.
Why not subtract 20% from a tax-inclusive total?
The tax is a percentage of the base, not of the larger inclusive total.
