PRACTICAL GUIDE

Read Stopwatch Laps and Total Time

Separate an individual lap from cumulative elapsed time when comparing repeated activities.

Start with a clear beginning

Press Start when the activity begins and Pause when you want to stop counting. A stopwatch measures elapsed time; it does not count down to a target. Reset it before a new activity so that an earlier measurement is not accidentally included in your total.

A lap has two useful numbers

Suppose the first lap is recorded at 30 seconds and the next at 65 seconds. The second cumulative reading is 65 seconds, while its interval is 35 seconds. ZenUtility shows both the total and the interval so you can compare each segment without subtracting the readings yourself.

Pause time is excluded

If you pause for a conversation and then resume, that paused interval is excluded from stopwatch elapsed time. That is useful for an activity-duration estimate, but it is different from the wall-clock time between starting and finishing. Decide which measure your record needs.

Copy before resetting

Copy your lap list before clearing the stopwatch or leaving the page. It is a page-session tool, not an account-backed timing record. Browser scheduling and human reaction time limit precision; use dedicated equipment if a competition or experiment needs certified timing.
