Public Holidays, Regional Dates and Observances
Read holiday lists without assuming that every listed date closes every workplace.
Read the type and the region
A national holiday, regional holiday and cultural observance can appear in the same country list. They do not necessarily have the same effect on work or school. Start with the type column, then read the location or region before deciding whether a date affects your plans.
Named and observed dates can differ
A holiday that falls on a weekend may have a substitute weekday under local rules. The date in the list and any observed substitute need to be interpreted together. Do not automatically add a Monday closure simply because another country follows that practice.
Check the saved update date
ZenUtility stores complete country/year lists from Calendarific. A country page checks when its last successful update occurred. When more than 30 days old, it attempts a refresh within the shared free-plan allowance. Otherwise it uses the database. An unavailable update keeps the prior list rather than inventing new dates.
Use the dates in your own schedule
For business-day calculations, copy only the closures that apply to your organization. For travel, check the relevant operator’s opening hours separately. Print or download the saved list for reference, and confirm important or provisional dates with the appropriate local authority.
