PRACTICAL GUIDE

Find the Weekday for Any Calendar Date

Check birthdays, appointments and historical dates using a clear Gregorian date.

Use a full date

Enter the day, month and four-digit year rather than relying on an ambiguous date such as 03/04/26. The weekday tool uses Gregorian calendar arithmetic. It checks that the date exists, including whether February has 28 or 29 days, before returning the weekday.

An easy reference point

January 1, 2026 falls on a Thursday. January 8 is also a Thursday because seven days complete a weekly cycle. Moving forward one day advances the weekday by one. These small comparisons are useful when checking a copied date or spotting a mistaken year in a printed schedule.

The same date changes weekday each year

An ordinary year contains 52 weeks plus one day. A leap year contains an additional day. As a result, a birthday usually shifts by one weekday from year to year, with the shift affected by whether the interval passes February 29. Do not reuse last year’s weekday without checking.

Historical calendar limits

The calculator extends Gregorian rules consistently across its supported years. A historical document may have used a different calendar or a locally adopted changeover date. For archival work, establish the calendar used by the original record first. The weekday result does not establish whether a date was observed locally under those rules.
